Together with all
legal counseling requirements of clients in the pre-dispute and
post-dispute stages, arbitration is one of the fundamental practice
areas of ELIG.
The adoption of the New York Convention of 1958 and the promulgation
of the International Arbitration Law of 2001 based on the UNCITRAL
Model Law in Turkey constituted a welcome step forward in facilitating
the recognition and enforcement of arbitral awards. In this new
era of arbitration friendly and efficient legal environment, ELIG formed a leading arbitration and dispute
resolution practice through its cooperation with numerous international
law firms.
ELIG serves its clients not only during
the dispute, but also by assuming a preventive role in the early
stages of a transaction (e.g. during the negotiation and drafting
of contracts). Furthermore, as a law firm that strives for forming
efficient and focused arbitration processes and strategies, ELIG also assists its clients during the
final pre-dispute stages where a potential dispute is highly likely.
Thanks to its close cooperation with international law firms, ELIG organized an international conference
on international arbitration in Istanbul in 2003 with the much appreciated
participation of highly respected members of Herbert Smith and Gleiss
Lutz. This conference brought together the eminent figures of the
arbitration field, such as the respectable partners of some international
law firms well-recognized in the field of arbitration; namely, Baer
& Karrer, Homburger and Lenz & Staehlin, in addition to
Herbert Smith and Gleiss Lutz.
In addition to their cooperation in making this conference possible,
partners of ELIG, Herbert Smith and
Gleiss Lutz published a book; "Materials on International Arbitration".
Arbitration, by definition, is an international field.
ELIG is a member of the ICC Turkish
National Committee, London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA)
and German Institute of Arbitration (DIS).
Arbitration is a dynamic field of law.
Therefore, ELIG is committed to the
continuing legal education of its attorneys and fellow colleagues
in this field. ELIG attorneys regularly
attend international conferences on arbitration. |
